Job Description:

The Director of Agronomy plans, coordinates and supervises a comprehensive program of maintenance for 36 holes of golf, various landscape and related areas to the standards approved by Ocean Reef Club.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

In addition to the following duties and responsibilities the Director of Agronomy advises the Director of Golf along with Green and Golf Committees as to conditions that may affect the normal use of the courses.

Develops budgets by maintaining accurate records of usage of materials as well as labor hours needed for weekly tasks for both winter and summer season.

Responsible for staff performance, staff recruitment, staff retention and staff development.

Develops training programs for all staff and insures that safe practices are applied for each task.

Provide daily - weekly instructions for superintendents as to the proper and timely agronomic practices needed for the two courses as well as all areas maintained by the golf maintenance department. I.e., croquet court, bocce lawn, roadway and clubhouse area maintenance, practice range, nursery green & mosquito spraying for the courses and resort.

Coordinate daily and tournament course setup with the Head Golf Professional to insure enjoyment by golfers.

Tour the course with the Executive Director of Golf and/or Golf and Green Committee Members at their reasonable request.

Attend all Club meetings as required.

Attend and prepare presentations both written and verbal as required for the Green and Golf Committee Meetings. Approve advanced agendas and provide any special research information requested.

Meet with Members and or groups concerning any issues under the golf maintenance umbrella. I.e., Members who have property adjoining the course, croquet committee, Bright View, etc.

Develop and implement a proper golf maintenance equipment repair program. Including the supervision and direction of mechanics with their repair and routine maintenance procedures insuring that accurate records are kept and maintained for the longevity of each piece of equipment.

Annually provide the Club with a required and desired capital list that includes the age, function and present condition of any new equipment and/or facility improvement needed.

Provide supervision of all irrigation under the golf maintenance umbrella as well as advisement to other areas used by the Club, ORCA and homeowner.

Monitor R/O water usage by courses and other users to help insure this program operates within our water making capacity.

Conduct bi-weekly staff meetings and others meetings as necessary to keep maintenance team members well informed and safe.

Responsible for all golf maintenance buildings and storage areas. The upkeep, the proper storage of all equipment, chemicals, and tools including the areas that is for use as locker and break rooms. A high priority is giving to cleanliness and safe working conditions in all these areas.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Administers and directs all aspects of the entire golf maintenance operation at Ocean Reef Club.

Through knowledge of all phases of golf course operations including but not limited to agronomics, personnel development, equipment operation and procurement, water management, course construction and landscape

Maintain and up to date working knowledge of the various laws and regulations that govern the use of chemicals, fertilizers, etc.

Strong verbal, written, analytical and interpersonal skills

Financial management and budget skills

Exceptional organizational skills including the ability to meet dead lines and coordinate projects

Computer program skills for Club management responsibilities as well as OSMAC and SITE PRO irrigation coordination

Education and/or Experience:

College turf and/or business degree required. Certified member of the GCSAA with a minimum of 7 to 10 years experience as a course superintendent.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Certified Golf Course Superintendent and certified chemical and pest applicator.
